Getting Started on Your Pathway to Healing

What To Expect For your First Consultation:
The initial consultation is 75-90 minutes, during which time we will:
1. Welcome you warmly
2. Do your: vitals (blood pressure, heart rate, respirations, body temperature), % oxygen saturation, saliva pH and body weight
3. Do a B.I.A, (% body fat, etc if requested), Biomeridian assessment (if scheduled in advance), Thyroflex (if scheduled in advance)
Dr. Godby will:
1. Learn your health goals
2. Ask about your life story and symptoms
3. Take a thorough health and lifestyle history
4. Review your current nutritional supplements and pharmaceutical medications (if any),
5. Do a brief exam,
6. Review your completed intake forms and suggest the appropriate lab tests,
7. Develop a treatment plan
To assist in making an accurate diagnosis of your condition(s), we may choose from an array of hundreds of laboratory tests, ranging from conventional blood and urine tests, to more progressive, functionally-oriented salivary hormone, adrenal and neurotransmitter testing, food allergy/sensitivity, genetic, digestive stool and many others.
What To Expect For your Second Consultation:
During the second visit, usually about 50 minutes, I will present a "Report of Findings," and details the the lifestyle (i.e. stress reduction, exercise and others) and dietary changes needed, along with the appropriate nutritional and herbal supplements, and other follow-up laboratory tests, as needed.
Working with Your Other Doctors
I regularly refer to specialists and would be happy to work with your primary care doctor. I believe that quality patient-centered care requires open-ended communication and would be happy to initiate a conversation with your other doctors to determine the best course of action.
Nutritional Supplements Offered in Office
We stock a "natural pharmacy" in our office because these are the formulations that I TRUST to provide the potency and quality necessary to achieve the desired therapeutic outcome. Buying a cheaper, "look-alike" formula may or may not produce the expected response. Another important reason I carry an in-office pharmacy is for your convenience when you're sick, making an extra stop to ponder the multitude of brands, can be very challenging.
Having said that, there are products of high-quality in today's health food stores and holistic pharmacies. I am happy to evauate a product that you have already puchased.
Since the beginning of his medical practice, Dr. Godby has attempted to make naturopathic medicine as affordable as possible, in part by reducing the cost of nutritional supplements.
All patients and retail customers of the Sacramento Naturopathic Medical Center receive a 20% discount off the manufacturer's suggested retail price, of virtually all the professional, physician-strength, hypoallergenic nutritional supplements at the Center, which are unavailable at other retail stores.

Some Important Things That You May Not Know About Our Center
A. E-mails to Dr. Godby: Because I have encouraged all my patients to e-mail me if there is a question - I receive a lot of emails. Occasionally, because of the volume of emails from patients and others, and "Spam" - emails may get inadvertently deleted. Your emails are extremely important to me! Over the years I have tried to answer emails within several hours, almost always within 24 hours - sometimes a little longer on the weekends. The point is: if you don't get a response by the next day, or even the same day, do not hesitate to re-send the email. I will never think you are bothering us. We would rather receive an e-mail twice, or even three times, than not receive/answer your letter. Why? Because your question is important! Got it?
2. Making Naturopathic Medicine as Affordable as Possible. We are working hard to give you the most affordable prices possible. All of our nutritional supplements are discounted 20% below the manufacturer recommended retail price. No other natural medical practice that we are aware of, does that. We also ship nutritional supplements from our office, normally the same day you call or email. The postage is only what we pay. Ask about our lower prices on hormone testing.
3 Lab Tests at your Convenience: Speaking of labs, you will always get a copy of all the lab tests you do through our Center. If for any reason you don't get a copy, just ask and we will mail/email/fax it to you..
4. Extremely Discounted Blood Tests: All of the blood tests we do through Quest are tremendously discounted, about one-fifth the regular price. The Dr. Weatherby Panel, a 50 item blood test, is only $127.10 (including blood draw fee), normally over $600 at Quest.
5. Our In-Office Tests include: Thyroflex (newest generation thyroid test); Biomeridian (55 point ), body impedance analysis (measures % body fat, basal metabolic rate, etc); food allergy, and many others.
6. You and I (and our staff) are partners in restoring your health. Your job is to report as accurately as possible your symptoms, medical history, and everything you know about your health. My job is to be a "medical detective." I can be a better detective the more information that you give me. The more observant you are about symptoms, when they occur, the intensity, other things going on in your life at the time, etc., the more valuable your information will be in finding out what is going on and how best to treat you. My job is to also to prescribe the best course of action, which often includes nutritional supplements; your job is to take them as prescribed, etc.
7. Patient (customer) Service is our Number One Priority. The slogan for the Sacramento Naturopathic Medical Center is: "Your Pathway to Healing." The goal of all of staff, regardless of our specific duties, is to be a true pathway to healing - to be a shelter from the storms of your life - where you feel accepted and appreciated.
8. Optimal Health Values on Blood Tests, NOT the Standard Reference Ranges. Please always bring or send all lab tests from other health care practitioners to our office. What may be "normal" to a conventional doctor, may be an important clue to your illness. I tell patients often that if you would like to irritate me, tell me: "I didn't bring my lab results because my doctor said they were normal."
9. We have been able to negotiate a better price on most hormone testing. If you are in need of bio-identical hormones, naturopathic doctors have the training to assess your hormones and your optimal health. We are full person medicine, we don't just treat parts.
10. "What is best for the patient" is Dr. Godby's motto.

Insurance Coverage
Every day, more insurance companies are covering naturopathic office visits. If you think you many have naturopathic coverage on your health plan, it is best to consult your insurance company directly to inquire about such coverage. If you have naturopathic coverage on your health insurance plan, you should be able to submit a claim yourself, for direct reimbursement to you in a timely manner.
Although we do not bill any insurance from our office, as a courtesy to our patients, Wilma, our office manager, if requested, will provide a printed "superbill" with each visit, which will serve as your receipt to send to your insurance company for possible reimbursement (at the rate set by your particular policy).
If you have an insurance that does not cover these services, use of a Health Savings Account (HSA) or flexible savings plan may cover this care. Check with your employer to see if one of these options are available.
If you do not have naturopathic coverage, let your insurance company know that this is something you would like to them to provide in the future. More coverage will become standard when more individuals request it!
Investing in Your Health:
The initial 75 minute visit for adults represents an investment of $189. The second visit (50 minutes), for the Report of Findings is $99. Our goal is to keep the fees reasonable, be as efficient as possible and provide you with a PRACTICAL treatment plan, information and inspiration necessary to get you well and optimally healthy.
The initial 75 minute visit for children, 0-17 years of age, fixed/low income is $149. The second visit (50 minutes), for the Report of Findings is $99.
Phone consultations and office visits have the same fee.
Home consultations rates vary. Please call Dr. Godby at (916) 446-2591 to make arrangements.
Payment is expected at the time of the visit with cash, check, or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover).
Ongoing Coaching rates vary. Please call Dr. Godby to discuss details.
